Team Information
Hiddenbrook Swim Team is open to all current club members who are 18 or under. To become a member of the team, a child must be able to swim one length of the pool (25 meters) using freestyle. Swimmers will compete against others in the same age group. If your child is initially unable to swim a length of the pool, we encourage him/her to join the Hiddenbrook Waterspouts Program. The Waterspouts practice in smaller groups and receive much more individual attention, so that they may become stronger swimmers.
While Fairfax County Public schools are in session, the team practices after school beginning the day after Memorial Day. Once school lets out for the summer, practices are held on weekday mornings. The practice schedule for the season is listed on our home page. The swim season begins in late May and finishes in late July. It includes practices, divided into age groups, as well as meets against local teams on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings.
Besides being successful in the water, the Hurricanes have great fun and show a huge amount of pride out of the pool. Throughout the season there are special events meant just for the Hurricanes Swim Team to grow team spirit and have fun. This is a fantastic opportunity for Hiddenbrook Swim & Tennis Club members who are interested in getting their children involved in competitive swimming. Not only will swimmers learn the basics of all four competitive swim strokes, but also will have fun, learn how to be a team player, and most importantly, begin a lifelong love of the sport of swimming. Competitive swimming is one of the few sports where the team consists of kids of all ages. Many of our current swimmers and Hurricane alumni began their competitive swimming careers here at the Hiddenbrook Swim & Tennis Club and have gone on to compete at high school, club, and even collegiate levels!
