Monday July 15 Home B Meet vs Herndon Hammerheads
Greetings Hiddenbrook families!
So hard to believe, but our last Monday B meet is this Monday July 15. We will be hosting our neighbors, the Herndon Hammerheads. If you will not have a swimmer in this meet you can disregard this email.
Sign ups: You must have your entries in by midnight tonight/Saturday. Please do not email, text, or call team reps or the data coordinator if you miss this deadline. We will not be accommodating ANY late entries. Set a timer, or better yet go register now!
PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO REVIEW THE ENTRY POLICIES BELOW.
If your swimmer was NOT in the A meet today then he/she may swim up to 2 strokes (free, back, breast, fly) as well as the IM. The entry system will allow you to select a third stroke, but this is not allowed and we will automatically cut your swimmer from the third event if we find a swimmer entered in three strokes.
If your swimmer swam two strokes in today’s A Meet, he/she may swim one of the other 2 strokes unofficially* and the IM, for a total of 2 events. A relay swim in the A meet does not count as a stroke.
A swimmer who swam one stroke in today’s A Meet may swim one of the other strokes officially, another stroke unofficially*, and the IM, for a total of 3 events. We will default the first stroke as unofficial/exhibition, if you want that switched around please let us know. A relay swim in the A meet does not count as a stroke.
Please do not sign your child up for the IM unless he/she has legal times in all four strokes.
*Unofficial/exhibition swim times count, all ‘unofficial’ means is that the swimmer will not receive a place ribbon.
If you sign up for a stroke that your swimmer is not allowed to swim based on the A meet we will do our best to contact you tomorrow morning. If we don’t hear back we will make adjustments ourselves because we need to merge entries with the other team. If you have any questions about what your child can swim, please email me or Dawn Jarvis this evening and we can help clarify.
Volunteers: If you have a child swimming please sign up to volunteer, we have a job for everyone!
Per NVSL standards, all officials (timers, clerk of course, marshals, stroke and turn judges, referee, starter) should wear a white top and navy bottoms.
Arrival times:
The meet begins at 6 PM, please have your swimmers arrive at 4:45 PM. We need swimmers ready to go for warm ups at 5 PM since we are the home team.
Officials:
Officials (Ref, Starter, Stroke and Turn judges, Timers, Head Timer, Clerks of Course) should arrive on deck at no later than 5:20 for briefings.
Swim Marshals, please arrive no later than 5 PM, as all Marshals must be in place prior to our team warm-up.
Parking: As good hosts we want the visiting team to be able to find parking in our lot. If possible, please consider walking to the pool or parking in the neighborhood. If you park on the street please do NOT block driveways or mailboxes, as you will be ticketed or towed.
Meet theme: Our B meets each have a theme, this week will be ‘Hawaiian’. Find your leis and palm tree shirts!
Team Areas: Hiddenbrook’s team area is located in the picnic area under the large blue funbrella.
1.There are picnic tables, but many swimmers bring foldable chairs as well.
2.Please bring goggles, sunscreen, swim cap, towel, bathing suit, bottle of water, snacks, enthusiasm, and the other normal necessities of a meet. It’s often helpful to have an extra towel and a sweatshirt as well. Bug spray may be helpful given the time of day.
Please make sure your swimmer returns to the team area after each event until he/she has no more events to swim. It is really difficult when we can’t find a swimmer and are trying to line up heats. If your swimmer has a break between events it is totally fine to use the restroom, visit concessions, etc. but the team area is where swimmers belong during the meet. We understand that younger swimmers may need to leave the meet early to get home for bed, but otherwise all swimmers are welcome to stay and cheer their friends on once they are finished swimming. Make sure your child picks up any garbage in his/her area before leaving the meet.
Other items to note:
1. We provide complimentary water to all meet officials (timers, stroke and turns, ref, starter, marshals, team reps, clerk of course, announcer, etc.)
2. After the meet ends please stick around and help us get the pool ready for the next day. We very much need help with this, and the more people the faster we can wrap up and get home.
3. Any weather delays and messages will be communicated via swimtopia alerts.
4. We have a bunch of Waterspouts swimming Monday in their first meet! Make sure to cheer on our younger swimmers and congratulate them on their achievement.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday!
-Sandy and Dawn, B meet reps
