How is the meet sheet made?
One frequently asked question is, “how is the meet sheet made?”
The simple answer is this:
We are trying to maximize the total points that our team may earn. There are 420 potential points in a NVSL meet. We are trying to get to 211 pts before the other team.
This involves looking at the other team’s times, figuring out what they will likely swim and countering that with our swimmers.(if we can.)
Sometimes that means your kid will not always get to swim the stroke they like.
Sometimes that means swimming your kid out of their age group
Sometimes that means you are put into a new stroke.
All of these things were done in the meet sheet against Little Hunting Park.
Swimming is sometimes thought of as an individual sport, but everything that goes into making a meet sheet is about the team. We are trying to maximize the success of the team.
The second part of making a meet sheet is about time. We build the meet sheet completely based on time.
There should never be an example that we substitute a swimmer with a slower time over a swimmer with a faster time.(with the one exception, they have to be consistently legal in the stroke)
We publish an updated top times report to our team every week to let you know where your kid stands in their age group.
If you think that there has been a mistake, or that you don’t understand what we have done, please reach out to Jon, or Bob or myself.
Please don’t ever share the top times report outside of our Hiddenbrook family, the results of such a mistake could be catastrophic. The 5 other teams in our division would pay good money for that information!
Thanks,
Neal
